The glasses group Essilorluxottica has confirmed the takeover of Automation & Robotics (A&R). The Belgian company develops and produces automated systems for quality control of optical glasses.

This step is intended to strengthen the vertically integrated supply chain in glass production, said Essilorluxottica. The group would like to make their production capacities future -proof.

“The integration of A&R into the portfolio of the industrial solutions of essilorluxottica is another milestone. We want to set new quality standards in our industry,” said Essilorlorluxottica CEO Francesco Milleri and his deputy Paul du Saillant. “We share the commitment to innovation, precision and service. Therefore, we can better support the changing needs of ophthalmological production; even the new categories such as wearables. This step is crucial for the further development of the future of visual care through quality and performance. This strengthens our technological platform.”

A&R was founded in 1983 and, thanks to proprietary technologies, has made a name for itself in the advanced optical measurement technology. The company supports glasses manufacturers in the digital transformation of their production processes. These serve both mass production systems and recipe laboratories. A&R extends the expertise in the entire value chain. This includes research and development, software development, production, sales and commitment.

Financial details of the transaction have not been announced.

The news follows the takeover of the South Korean company Pucore by Essilorluxottica in July. Pucore specializes in the development, manufacture and distribution of monomers that are used in the production of glasses.
