The brothers were again convicted in a revision process in May, now for lifelong for up to fifty years, which makes them eligible for conditional release, the last step in years of struggle of the brothers to be released after 35 years in prison. Their lawyer Mark Geragos argued at TMZ for the immediate release of Erik Menendez.

“It’s a serious condition,” Geragos tells TMZ. “I think he should be temporarily released on medical grounds. He should be given medical leave before the upcoming hearing, so that he can work together with the lawyer for conditional release, prepare himself and be ready to put his best gain for. I think that the only honest and juste is to do,” he said.

The brothers have a hearing on the requested conditional release on August 21. Last year their business again attracted a lot of attention from the Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, including Javier Bardem and Cooper Koch, among others.
