Englishman Scott Parker is the new head coach of Club Brugge

The 18-time England international succeeds Carl Hoefkens, who was fired on Wednesday after disappointing performances in the Belgian league. The Club Brugge board now opts for Scott Parker, a renowned name in English football. The Londoner already has two titles as a coach in the Championship, the English second division, and must now try to get the blue and black out of its crisis.

Not the main candidate

After the dismissal of Hoefkens, Bart Verhaeghe and Vincent Mannaert initially went full for Danish national coach Kasper Hjulmand and Steven Gerrard. Both did not respond to Club Brugge’s interest. Scott Parker did. The former midfielder and former player of Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham, among others, has been without a club since the end of August. He was sacked from Bournemouth after a historic 9-0 defeat to Liverpool and beatings against Man City and Arsenal. Parker did not spare his criticism for the board and their transfer policy at the time. From pre-season he complained that his team was not competitive enough for the Premier League.

Lots of ball possession and intensity

Code words for the new blue-black coach are possession and intensity. Parker stands for well-groomed football and probably also opts for a 4-3-3 line-up with high backs at Club Brugge. Scott Parker also gives a lot of opportunities to the youth. At Bournemouth he took no less than fifteen youth players on an internship with the first team. Interesting for the guys from Club NXT.

Monday immediately follows Parker’s first day at work. On Sunday he faces an important assignment on the field of leader KRC Genk.
