According to the British Prime Minister Keir Karrmer, the fact that nine of ten Formula 1 teams currently have branches in Great Britain is “really exceptional”, especially since Formula 1 even maintains its headquarters in England. This is commenting on the head of government with a winking proposal.
At a reception of Formula 1 representatives in front of the Grand Prix in Silverstone, string: “There is only one team with no presence in this country, and I wonder if there might be a diplomatic problem if I try to take Ferrari from Italy!”
In fact, Ferrari has been partially based in England in the past: When the team committed the British John Barnard as chief developer in the late 1980s and refused to go to Italy, Ferrari set up a design office in England.
Formula 1 as an economic engine
Barnard developed the first semi-automatic gear in Formula 1 history. But when Barnard left Ferrari in 1990, Ferrari also left England and has since worked solely from his company headquarters in Maranello in Italy.
With currently three out of ten teams under the British flag and another six (with newcomers Cadillac seven) teams with at least sub -locations in England, a “British character is still absolutely available” for Prime Minister Straver.
This has far -reaching consequences: According to the Starmer, Formula 1 enables around 40,000 jobs in Great Britain as a racing series and contributes equally 14 billion euros to the British economy annually. This means that Formula 1 is a “engine of growth” and “so much more than just a sport,” emphasizes the prime minister.
Formula 1 is at home in Great Britain
And Great Britain is a home for Formula 1 in several ways, as series manager Stefano Domenicali explains: “It all started here 75 years ago, in 1950 in Silverstone.”
This anniversary had taken as an opportunity to receive numerous Formula 1 representatives with show cars at his seat of government in the famous Downing Street in London
Because even the following Grand Prix promises to become a success story: The Formula 1 race in Silverstone is one of the largest motorsport events worldwide with a total of around 480,000 weekend visitors.
However, the number is deceptive: it is not almost half a million individuals, but a total number that results from adding the individual event days.
This means that if you go on the route from Friday to Sunday, you are counted three times. With this count, Silverstone is the clear number one in the Formula 1 calendar. “And we are very proud of that,” says Domenicali.
