The affair for dubious million -paying remains for the two former football officials Joseph Blatter and Michel Platini without judicial consequences. The Federal Prosecutor’s office accepted the second acquittal in the appeal procedure and waived further legal steps, as announced in Bern.

“With the acceptance of the judgment, which both the first and the second instance has expressed according to the principle of ‘in Dubio Pro Reo’, the federal prosecutor closes another chapter in the investigation complex for football”she said. The public prosecutor had asked prison terms of one year and eight months to probation for the once most powerful men in world football.

From 1998 to 2015, Blatter (89) was the head of the World Football Association FIFA, Platini (70) from 2007 to 2015 President of the European Football Union UEFA. Both had to answer for a FIFA payment to Platini, among other things, for fraud, embezzlement, incredible business and forgery of documents.

Already acquittals in 2022 and 2025

According to Blatter and Platini, the payment of around two million francs (today around CHF 2.1 million) in 2010 was a late fee for long -lasting advisory activities. It was agreed by handshake what is considered a valid contract in Switzerland. The two were acquitted in the first instance in 2022 and in March 2025 in the second instance. With the acceptance of the judgment by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, the acquittal is now final.

FIFA boss Gianni Infantino is seen as the greatest profiteer in the scandal. The then general secretary of the European Football Union (UEFA) used the resulting power vacuum by Blatter’s resignation and the cold position of its designated successor Platini and was elected FIFA president in early 2016.
