Kevin Trapp became a club legend in Frankfurt. Now the former DFB keeper officially said to his ex-club.
The 35-year-old was celebrated in the stadium almost half an hour before the kick-off. Under the applause and speech choirs of the fans, Trapp received the lifelong club membership. He had played 383 competitive games in the Hesse jersey.
Frankfurt’s board spokesman Axel Hellmann praised the former international as “a legend in this club for all times”. The goalkeeper, which was switched to FC Paris in summer, was visibly moved and addressed his words of thanks primarily to the fans. “Being able to experience everything together was the greatest in my career.” And further: “I will never be completely gone.”
Trapp’s greatest success was the winning of the Europa League 2022. In the final, Frankfurt defeated the Glasgow Rangers. Trapp had saved his team into a penalty shootout at the last minute and parried Aaron Ramsey’s attempt there: a decisive contribution to winning the title.
At the streaming service DAZN, Trapp said: “I am very, very grateful for everything I was able to experience here.” The fact that he can say goodbye in this context is “something very special.”
