The municipality has taken a purchase option at the vacant building De Boermarke. The former school building on the corner of the Boermarkeweg and Angelsloerdijk is right next to the area where Schools NHL Stenden and DC Terra have plans for a joint education campus. To keep a grip on that development, Emmen makes this cross.
The building has been vacant for a long time due to earlier and now stopped plans for a care institution. In May this year the former gym was destroyed by a fire and this was not rebuilt. Since then the building has been empty and it has made a deteriorated impression.
To prevent an initiative that can thwart the plans for the Education Campus, the College of Emmen has decided to take out a purchase option. This will receive the exclusive right to purchase the building for a fixed price until the end of next year.
The option obliges the municipality to nothing. But as soon as the municipality cashed in the option, a valid purchase agreement automatically arises.
At a later time, the city council will make a decision about actually exercising this purchase option. Budget must also be made available for a possible purchase.
It is not the first time that the municipality of Emmen is purchasing a property for the development of the planned education campus between the Scheper Hospital and Industriepark. Emmen has previously bought the Enexispand on the Second Bokslootweg (2.3 million euros) and the Kop van Zuidpand (6 million euros) next to the hospital.
