The nominations for the 82nd edition of the Golden Globes were announced on Monday (November 9th). Among the awards’ favorites, one production in particular stands out: Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez”.

Clear leadership for “Emilia Pérez”

The drug cartel musical, which won the Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, is leading the feature films with the most nominations. The film tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who wants to turn away from crime and live as a woman. Starring: Karla Sofia Gascón, nominated for Best Actress for her performance. The film is up for the main prizes in a total of nine other categories, including best director, best supporting actress and best screenplay.

Close behind is Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” a drama about the story of the Hungarian-Jewish architect László Tóth. In addition to the nomination for the best film in the drama category, the actors Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones were chosen as worthy of the award for their acting performances. Guy Pearce is also a contender for Best Supporting Actor. “The Brutalist” received a total of seven nominations.

Vatican vs. desert planet

The competitor “Konklave” has to be content with one less. With Ralph Fiennes in the lead role, the Vatican thriller is one of the favorites and has been nominated six times. The science fiction blockbuster “Dune: Part Two” with Timothée Chalamet fares rather poorly in comparison. The film was only able to convince in two categories in the preselection. However, he is in the running for best actor in a drama for the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown”.

“The Bear” prevailed in the series – five nominations in total, including for the actors Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Cólon-Zayas. “Only Murders in the Building” and “Shogun” received four each, and the Netflix sensation “Squid Game” was considered once for best drama series.
