The socialist parliamentary spokesman, Patxi López, has announced that they are going to register an amendment to the bill that repeals sedition to reinforce the “fight against corruption” in the Penal Code. In this sense, he has explained that public officials have the obligation to submit their asset declarations when they arrive at the public function, but that “there is no procedure at the end of the mandate.”

Thus, he has stressed that with his initiative, in the following five years, public officials who present an “increase in assets or a cancellation of their debts above 250,000 euros” must justify the origin of this money before the Justice. In the case of not doing so, the proposal contemplates jail sentences of between six months and three years, disqualification of between two and seven years and economic fines of up to three times the enrichment.
