England and Sweden have a big fight in the European Championship quarter-finals. In the penalty shootout, many players then fail their nerves, which makes an entry in the history books.

Shortly before midnight it was decided: England moved into the European Championship semi-final, Sweden had to delete the sail. The penalty shootout, which ended 3-2, was not only dramatic, but also historical.

Because of 14 attempts from the point, only five found their way into goal – a whole nine were shot. That had never been done with a football European Championships of the women before. So far, negative records have been four bad shots in the 2017 penalty shootout between Denmark and Austria. At the end it was 3-0.

England had “trained penalties”

“I was confident, we had trained penalty”England striker Chloe Kelly described the now most memorable penalty shootout in the previous EM history and had to smile himself. “It didn’t go as we expected.”

Kelly himself was one of the few who converted uncompromisingly – besides her met for the Lionesses Alessia Russo and Lucy Bronze, who had recently taken care of their thighs with a tape in the game.

Kelly only had one word for her goalkeeper Hannah Hampton: “Incredible.” It is “Everything went so quickly”Hampton said visibly relieved even after the game. “It was stressful. I held one and then the next one was held, it just went on.” For England, Lauren James, Beth Mead, Alex Greenwood and Grace Clinton.

Falk and Holmberg the tragic heroines for Sweden

Sweden, just like England Platt from the big fight of the 120 minutes, had match balls in the meantime – one of which hunted Hampton’s Swedish keeper colleague Jennifer Falk over the goal.

The last of the many tragic heroines of the evening was Smilla Holmberg, who clearly missed the box and thus decided the game in favor of the English women. Afterwards the 18-year-old was indefinent and was sobbing in her arms. In addition to Falk and Holmberg, Filippa Angeldahl, Magdalena Eriksson and Sofia Jakobsson also had no luck from the point.

“This is a bitter defeat”said Nathalie Björn. “We wanted to write another story, but unfortunately we didn’t do that.” In addition to Julia Zigiotti Olme, Björn was the only one who could meet Sweden. Instead of another story for your own team, there was now a dubious entry in the EM history books.
