EM | Germans are jungle camp fans: “top topic at breakfast”

The German handball players are about to reach the European Championship semi-finals. When eating together, a reality show is the number one topic.

While the German handball players are reaching for the title at the European Championships, several celebrities are fighting in Australia in the reality show “I’m a star – get me out of here!” of the TV station RTL for the jungle crown. The show is quite popular among players.

“This is already a top topic at the breakfast table in the morning,” said cyclist Justus Fischer, according to the “dpa”. The U21 world champion was already aware before the tournament started that the jungle camp would be part of the daily conversations among the players. “Philipp Weber told me before the tournament that I definitely had to watch it. Otherwise, I won’t be able to have a say during the meal. People are already chatting about it,” said Fischer.

“You can’t really get past it”

The handball players seem to be particularly fond of two celebrities in the Australian jungle. “Cora Schumacher is a big topic and so is Mr. Odonkor. I often smile when I go through such headlines,” said Christoph Steinert and stated: “You can’t really get past it.”

This Wednesday, however, the players will not be able to turn on the television to watch the celebrities take part in the jungle trials. The DHB team will play in the last main round game against Croatia at 8:30 p.m. The European Championship semi-final beckons.

The handball players wouldn’t see Cora Schumacher anymore anyway. She has already left the jungle camp.
