Elton John Performs “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” as the Very Last Live Song and Gives Emotional Speech (Video)

With his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, Elton John traveled all over the world for five years and 330 concerts. Now he brought his show to the stage for the last time in the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. At the end of the concert on Saturday (July 8), the 76-year-old sang the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and addressed a few words to his audience, visibly touched. A fan filmed the emotional moment.

Elton John said before the song began: “I’ve had the most wonderful career imaginable. Fifty years of pure joy in making music. I’m lucky. But I wouldn’t be sitting here talking to you if it weren’t for you. You bought the singles, the CDs, the albums, the cassettes. And more importantly, you bought the tickets for the concerts. You know how much I love to play live. It was my lifeblood to play for you guys. You guys were just great.”

It wasn’t until May 2023 that the Briton proved what an outstanding pop pianist he still is. At his Stockholm gig he once again explained to the crowd the reason for his departure from touring: “I want to have the time to really appreciate my family, my sons, my husband and everything. I deserve it. And I have no regrets tonight. I want to thank the band, the crew and everyone else. I will miss you so much, but I will see you again much sooner than you think. I love you guys!”

However, fans can hope that the Oscar winner will not give up the stage completely. After all, in 2020 he let Rolling Stone USA get carried away with the thought game of performing a concert residency with lesser-known tracks in the future: “It would be similar to what Kate Bush did at the Hammersmith Apollo. She performed and played to 4,000 people a night for three weeks. If I do that, I don’t want to sing “Crocodile Rock” again, and I don’t want to sing “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” again. These are wonderful songs. You’ve done me a lot of good. But there are other songs like “Original Sin” and “American Triangle” that I’d like to sing.”
