Electoral compass: Government should not force farmers to sell their farms

The government should not force farmers to sell their farms. This is the opinion of a large part of the residents of Drenthe, according to analyzed results from the Drenthe Electoral Compass. In this voting guide the statement ‘To reduce nitrogen emissions, the government may force farmers to sell their farm’ was presented.

In total, more than 70 percent of Drenthe residents who completed the Kieskompas indicate that they do not agree with this or do not agree at all. In the age category between 18 and 50 years, this even concerns about three quarters of the people. More than a fifth of Drenthe people agree with the statement and 10 percent prefer to keep quiet. One percent has no opinion at all

With this statement you clearly see a difference between the more urban provinces, such as North Holland, South Holland and Utrecht, and the provinces with a lot of agricultural land and/or farmers, such as Drenthe, Friesland, Overijssel and North Brabant. In the urbanized provinces, only half of the people are against the buyout of farmers, and in the remaining areas the percentage is close to 70 percent.
