Shortly before Christmas, the Eintracht Frankfurt women welcome an old friend back to the squad: Sara Doorsoun is making a surprise return to Hesse after only six months in the USA. One of the reasons: homesickness.
Yes, is it Christmas already? One day before Christmas Eve, the Eintracht Frankfurt women put a present under the tree for themselves. As the Bundesliga club announced, almost six months after Sara Doorsoun’s tearful departure, the role is surprisingly moving backwards. The 34-year-old defensive specialist is leaving the US professional league and returning to Eintracht.
Doorsoun missed Frankfurt
“My farewell in the summer was very emotional. Now it’s an equally emotional return for me with a lot of joy,” said the former national player. Doorsoun appeared on the pitch a total of eight times for Angel City FC, but the great mutual love clearly did not develop.
“There wasn’t a day in Los Angeles when I didn’t think about Frankfurt. Just as it was a heartfelt decision for me in the summer, it is also one now and my feeling tells me: My place is here,” said Doorsoun, who will officially be part of the Hessians’ squad again from January 1st and has a contract until the summer of 2028.
Kiel is happy about returning
Doorsoun will therefore complete the winter preparation completely and then – according to the plans of those responsible – take on a key role again. “In the past few months, Sara has made her dream of playing soccer in the USA come true. At the same time, we realized together that a return in the winter is not only possible, but also makes sense for everyone,” summarized women’s soccer director Katharina Kiel. “We are happy that we can continue our story together.”
