Not playable space: The impetus of the Eintracht Braunschweig test game against Holstein Kiel on Saturday is delayed. Instead of a rolling ball, the fans initially only see lawnmowers.

Actually, it should be ready in the early Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.: Almost everything was arranged for the friendly between Eintracht Braunschweig and Bundesliga relegated Holstein Kiel in the stadium on Lake Salzgitters. Almost.

Shortly before the game kicked off, however, there was a plan change. The reasonable reason: “The impetus of today’s game is likely to be delayed at 2:30 p.m., because after joint consultation between the associations of the lawns, mowed again,” said the social media on the part of the BTSV. “We ask all fans for understanding.”

At the social media appearances by Holstein Kiel, it was read that the square in Salzgitter was simply not playable. At first, the teams did not even come to warm up on the lawn.

And so employees of the hosts sat down on two lawnmowers and turned their circles in front of the waiting fans. “You can’t tell anyone,” Kiel wrote on X and provided the post with a salmon miley. Also strange: in between, one of the lawnmowers failed, but was able to continue after a short break.

And so there was ultimately a happy ending. At 2:30 p.m. – a whopping 90 minutes after the scheduled appointment – the ball finally rolled. Salzgitter’s Mayor Frank Klingebiel promised the fans as a compensation for the waiting time one free drink per person. In summer temperatures, the audience can certainly use this well – especially since the game was set for an extended season of 120 minutes.
