Eight swans died in Bruges, so the city is taking extra measures: “Do everything it can to protect the swans as best as possible”

Sad news from Bruges: eight swans have already died there – probably after an outbreak of bird flu. It is striking that the swans have only been swimming freely since 14 May. However, the swans are not caged again, because then they pass the disease on to each other more quickly. The situation of the animals is closely monitored. “It is better to leave them out in the open and create some distance,” says Mercedes Van Volcem (Open VLD), alderman of the Public Domain.
