Education will also switch to code orange next week | Inland

Schools, academies and boarding schools will switch from phase red to phase orange from Saturday 19 February. Flemish Minister of Education Ben Weyts (N-VA), the education partners and the experts discussed the modalities on Saturday. For example, it has been clarified that mouth masks will disappear for all primary school students, including students of the sixth grade who have already turned twelve.

Weyts also wants to offer a start to perspective for secondary education. Pending the disappearance of the general mouth mask obligation, the mouth mask can already be used on the playground and all other outdoor activities from 19 February. Mouth mask breaks are also possible, it sounds.

The education minister hopes that after the spring break there will be a complete end to the mouth mask in secondary education. “I understand all too well that our students are also tired of their mouth masks, especially when they see all the relaxation in the rest of society. And especially if they have to wear a mouth mask themselves in fewer and fewer places. Mouth masks will no longer remain mandatory in primary education, but I hope that we can also take the same step for secondary education as soon as possible,” said Weyts.

Yesterday/Friday, the Consultation Committee already decided that the corona barometer will switch to code orange on Friday 18 February, so education will follow a day later, so that the new rules will take effect at the start of the new school week.
