At the moment forty Ukrainian students are being taught, a number that will be expanded later. A large part of the children is cared for at the Parc Sandur holiday park and in the former Fletcher Hotel. “We’re lucky with that, otherwise we’ll have to transport them all in vans.”

In addition to teaching, the expertise center has explained to the parents how everything works at the school. “That was exciting, but when I look at the groups, I see that they are more relaxed and are starting to find their place. And I see that with the parents, also because they were able to ask questions. They also allow their children to be able to be a child,” said De Koning.

Alderman Raymond Wanders is also pleased that education could be started in a relatively short time. “We have done everything we can to get the students to school as soon as possible and to start teaching.”

It is not known where the Ukrainian children will be taught after the summer holidays. This may still take place on the Angelsloërdijk, but another building could also take its place. That depends, among other things, on how many refugees are still coming to the region.
