The center-back Édgar González has renewed his contract with Betis until June 30, 2025, the Verdiblanco club reported on Tuesday, to which the Sant Joan Despí footballer arrived in 2018 to play for its subsidiary.

Edgar, who will turn 25 on April 1, He is one of the players who has experienced the greatest growth since he debuted with the Betis first team in 2018 and, after his one-year loan in the 2020-2021 campaign at Oviedo, he has established himself as a central defender from his natural position as a defensive midfielder under the guidance of Chilean coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Since his debut, the Barcelona player has played a total of 47 official matches with Betis, 33 of them this season between the League (19), the Europa League (7) and the Copa del Rey (7).

Édgar told the club’s media that he wants to return this renovation “with great joy to the Betis” and that, despite the illusion of Beticismo in the final of the Copa del Rey next 23 against Valencia, in the locker room they continue with the maxim of “game by game” to be “as high as possible” in the League before starting to focus on the cup match. “It will come,” he stated.

Edgar’s is the last of the renovations undertaken by the Verdiblanca sports management after that of the Mexican Andrés Guardado, who last week extended his commitment to Betis until June 2023.

Previously, Betis had already guaranteed the continuity of Manuel Pellegrini’s project with the extension of the Chilean coach’s contract and that of heavyweights from the Betis dressing room such as Sergio Canales, the Frenchman Nabil Fekir and Borja Iglesias, in addition to the under-21 international Rodrigo Sánchez ‘Rodri’.
