Ed Sheeran releases new album Autumn Variations

Fans of Ed Sheeran should already mark September 29, 2023 in their calendars: that’s when the British pop superstar’s seventh studio album will be released, which will be called “Autumn Variations”.

“Autumn Variations” follows 2021’s album “=” (pronounced “Equals”) and was produced by The National boss Aaron Dessner. It will consist of fourteen songs. Sheeran is releasing it on his Gingerbread Man Records label.

“Last fall I realized that my friends and I were going through so many life changes. After the heat of the summer, everything either calmed down, leveled off, fell apart, escalated or imploded,” Sheeran said in a statement accompanying the record.

“When I was going through a difficult time early last year, writing songs helped me understand my feelings and process what was going on, and as I learned about my friends’ different situations I wrote songs, some of theirs Perspective, some mine, to capture how she and I saw the world at the time. There were highs like infatuation and new friendships, but also lows like heartbreak, depression, loneliness and confusion.

His father and brother told him about a composer named Elgar who composed the “Enigma Variations”, in which each of the 14 compositions is about a different friend of his. Dues inspired him to make this album. “When I recorded Subtract with Aaron Dessner, we instantly bonded. We wrote and recorded non-stop and this album grew out of that partnership. I feel like he captured the feeling of autumn so beautifully in his sounds and I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.”
