At the age of 94, Bernie Ecclestone separated from his collection of Formula 1 cars. The millions of cars now belong to the Red Bull heir.

One of the most impressive car collections in motorsport history changed the owner. The former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone sold its private collection with 69 historic racing cars. As the British “Daily Mail” reports, the collection now belongs to Mark Mateschitz, the son of the late Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz. The value of the vehicles is estimated at around 595 million euros.

Ecclestone was relieved by the sale. “It means a lot to me to know that this collection is now in the very best hands. Mark is the best and most worthy owner we can imagine,” said the 94-year-old.

How much mateschitz paid for the racing car was not known. However, the 32-year-old announced not only to preserve the “historically significant collection”, but also to expand. In addition, it should be made accessible to the public in the future.

Ecclestone had apparently started collecting more than 50 years ago. The vehicles include Ferraris, who were once driven by Michael Schumacher and Niki Lauda. The sale took place primarily with a view to his wife Fabiana Flosi. “I’m 94 and with a little luck, maybe I have a few more years longer. Who knows? But I didn’t want to leave Fabi alone with the question of what to do with the cars when I’m no longer there,” said the Brit.

Ecclestone shaped Formula 1 for decades. In the 1970s he began to market the racing series and expand internationally. He was managing director until 2017 before the Liberty Media company took over the premier class.
