Citizens and institutions are summoned to disconnect the lights for one hour from 8:30 p.m.

Millions of people from more than 190 countries and territories will turn the world off again on Saturday March 25 to demand more action against the climate crisis in a new call for Earth Hour after the latest warnings from UN IPCC climate experts.

“With Earth Hour we want to alert that we don’t have a minute to losethat we must act quickly and decisively, that we have to change our way of relating to the planet”, explains the general secretary of WWF Spain, Juan Carlos del Olmo.

This environmental leader recalls that last Monday the United Nations Panel of Experts on Climate Change (IPCC) warned that this decade must be the turning point to prioritize the recovery of nature and the climate.

According to the IPCC, in its most comprehensive report since the Paris Agreement in 2015, global greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by 43% by 2030 and by 60% by 2035 to reach net zero emissions by mid-century and prevent global temperatures from exceeding the dangerous 1.5°C tipping point.

This Saturday you have to turn off the lights at 8:30 p.m. | WWF

WWF urges governments to heed the report’s warnings and act quickly to implement its recommendations and limit the impacts of the climate crisis, adds Del Olmo, in an article for efeverde.com from Agencia EFE.

One hour without light this Saturday from 8:30 p.m.

That is why Earth Hour “is now more necessary than ever” argues Del Olmo who invites the public to turn off the lights for one hour, starting at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday 25, and to join the challenge “Kilometers for the Planet”.

This initiative seeks to demonstrate that with a collective effort you can “win the race” against the climate emergency, argues the head of WWF Spain.

In this edition, #KMPorElPlaneta aspires to exceed the 280,000 kilometers registered last year -an amount equivalent to going seven complete turns around the Earth-, for which organizations, sports clubs and individuals must register at https://horadelplaneta.wwf.es/ and choose the distance they want to cover and the discipline they will use: walking, running, cycling, swimming or skating.
