On the event site on the Brugestraat in Dwingeloo, it is very busy on Saturday morning. People and children dressed as a horse, smurf and cotton candy walk together. They belong to the 32 decorated cars that are in a long procession on the site.

The cars are made and decorated by the inhabitants of Dwingeloo. That has a special reason, because on Monday the Dwingelers will celebrate a special anniversary: then the Dwingelermarkt has been in 300 years. So it has been a party in the village for a few days. Today is entirely devoted to the floats parade.

“It took our blood, sweat and tears, but we are extremely proud of the result,” says Susanne Ruifrok. With dozens of other volunteers, she has worked on a large candy stall in recent months. “If we think back to 300 years of Dwingelermarkt, then everyone knows how to remember that candy stall. That is the first thing we ran to.”

And with that, the Ruifrok car meets the rules that the organization has imposed on the builders: all cars must have to do with 300 years of Dwingelermarkt-history. A four -member jury approves the creative expressions of the villagers. “We pay attention to the story that they want to tell by car, to the finish, but we also pay attention to the extras. Everything has to be right,” explains jury member Corry Jaspers. She has a considerable bone. “It is very difficult for us, because many cars look alike.”

With another car, an old -fashioned hand is done. On the car there are counterfeit chickens, sheep and a pig. “We worked on it with thirty men,” says Wagenbouwer Alex Brommer. The saying ‘if it does not rain, it will drip on the car. “That spell comes from 1939 and was once pronounced by the city council when the market threatened at the time. This meant that cattle on the market would always be traded, sometimes less than the other year.” For moped, the statement symbolizes the future of the Dwingelermarkt. “We want the market to continue to exist.”

Today’s parade is the rise to Monday’s final: then the Dwingelermarkt is. The 300-year-old exists is then really celebrated, predicts Britt Huitink of Dwingeloo village activities. “We therefore advise the villagers to free up old -fashioned on Monday.”
