Dutch remain in cell after discovery of five tons of cocaine

The large amount of drugs was found in the port of Zeebrugge on Tuesday evening, February 28, during a customs check. It is not known whether this was an accidental or a targeted check of that container. The cocaine would have been hidden in a load of fruit.

Five people were arrested as a result of the drug bust, but it is not clear what their possible role in the facts could be. The Bruges investigating judge subsequently arrested four Dutch suspects on 2 March.

These are young men born in 1998, 2002, 2002 and 2003. The fifth arrested suspect was not arrested.

The Bruges council chamber ruled on Tuesday morning that the Dutch should stay in prison longer in the interest of the investigation.
