The government is increasing the opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs in infrastructure projects within development aid. With the modernization of DRIVE, more projects are being carried out by Dutch companies. This strengthens local development and our earning capacity.

The DRIVE program helps realize infrastructure projects in low- and middle-income countries and is implemented on behalf of the ministry by Invest International. The modernization of DRIVE – which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year – fits in with the government’s strategy to combine international trade, investments and development aid and to put Dutch interests first. For example, the government wants more Dutch companies to be able to participate in projects, such as the construction of bridges and water systems or the construction of hospitals.

State Secretary De Vries of Foreign Trade and Development Aid: ‘It is important that Dutch entrepreneurs are more involved in development aid projects. This offers more opportunities for Dutch entrepreneurs. In this way we combine the knowledge and experience of Dutch entrepreneurs with concrete results.’

In the coming period, the government will continue to work to increase financing options for companies that want to be active in developing countries, including by simplifying and accelerating procedures. We are also committed to further developing customized solutions for financing, for example through loans under favorable conditions.

CEO of Invest International Melanie Maas Geesteranus: ‘We are happy with this step. Only through strategic cooperation, in which aid and trade go hand in hand, can we advance the earning capacity of Dutch companies. Where we create a future that is richer, more resilient and more sustainable.’
