Dutch celebrity show Meilandjes completely bashed: ‘Laughable and sad’

The Meilandjes wake up with a hangover, because the first review of their new program Chateau Meiland VIPS has arrived and it is not bad. “Laughable and sad!”

It is a TV family that irritates many people: the Meilandjes, and especially their somewhat spoiled daughter Maxime. Last night they started a new TV program, namely Chateau Meiland VIPS. Every week they receive two other celebrities in their guest house. So yet another program with chatty celebrities.

Fact-free chat

Caroline van der Plas and John de Bever were in the first episode together and, according to TV columnist Mark Koster from The Telegraph extremely sad television.

Caroline’s visit to such a superficial program is especially scandalous, Mark thinks. “The politician has become a soap star. Chamber work seems like a side issue,” he sneers. “She was given free passage at the Meilandjes, a family far away. With the soap family you can chat without facts.”

Largest party

According to Mark, there is an incredible amount of nonsense in the show. John de Bever, for example, shouted that Caroline runs the ‘largest party in the country’, while her BBB only became the sixth party in the last parliamentary elections. “She didn’t correct it.”

Apparently facts like that are secondary to the Meilandjes. Caroline had brought them a block of cheese with the letter ‘C’ on it. “It was hilarious and sad at the same time.”

Bizarre encounter

What bad TV, says Mark. He speaks of a ‘bizarre meeting of guests who live in their own universe’. “Curiosity was missing. No one asked anything about the rape of Maxime Meiland, a story that is openly doubted.”

And nothing was asked about the cabinet formation, Mark concludes. “It was an evening full of silliness to quickly forget.”
