Mauro Ezequiel Lombardo He was born on June 24, 1996 in Almagro. There are three Lombardo brothers, Duki is the middle one, just after Nahuel (his reference in music), and before Candela, his younger sister, a member of his production team. A curious fact is his date of birth since June 24 is for many, “the most Argentine day of the year” due to the number of anniversaries that are remembered on that date.
Among others, the birth of Juan Manuel Fangio, national and world icon of motorsports, the births of Lionel Messi and Juan Roman Riquelme, two of the greatest football idols, as well as the deaths of Carlos Gardel and Rodrigo Bueno, geniuses of tango and the national quartet. This date is also the National Singer’s Day, nothing less. For many, it is no coincidence.
From the beginning of his adventures, Mauro always listened to music and a very varied one, from Charly García and Spinetta, to Linkin Park, reaching rap through Eminem and 50 Cent, the two most important rappers of the early 2000s. In 2010, when He was barely 14 years old when he saw a video of a freestyle battle on YouTube. They were the rappers Kodigo and Tata, and this was the beginning.
Little by little, Mauro began to rap at home, and after two years, in 2012, he began to battle in the squares. Duki saw the rise of rap in the country with the boom of El Quinto Escalón, the Rivadavia Park freestyle competition that began as a simple hobby, and ended up being the most famous in Argentina and Latin America.
“No Vendo Trap” is Duki’s first song published on YouTube. By winning an edition of El Quinto, Mauro obtained a free recording of his first song, the dream of many kids starting out in music. Published on November 11, 2016, almost eight years ago, the video clip has more than 35 million views, a milestone that few musicians (not just rappers) can claim.
The outbreak
2017 was the year trap took off and began to be heard throughout the country and on the continent. The sound coming from the United States had already made a stopover in Puerto Rico and Spain. It took a while to arrive in Argentina, but the reward was very great. Duki signed with the MUEVA Records label, where – with producer Omar Varela – he composed several of his best-known songs.
In 2018, Duki gave more than 40 shows on the Atlantic coast between January and February, reaching thousands of young people who went to dance reggaeton or cumbia at the nightclub, and came out listening to trap. That same year, Mauro would break ties with Omar Varela and MUEVA Records, and would begin one of the most iconic stages not only of his career, but of urban music in Argentina: Modo Diablo
The phenomenon
Duki, Neo Pistea and Ysy A, three ragpickers who had been well known on the national scene, joined forces to give life to the three-headed snake. Quavo was the first song, and its name is due to the American rapper of the same name, very famous for being one of the members of Migos, a trap group. In fact, both Modo Diablo, Duki Neo and Ysy have called themselves the “White Migos” several times. With less than 5 songs together, Modo Diablo broke up, but not before filling a Luna Park, giving tours in Spain and establishing themselves as legends.
After Modo Diablo, Duki releases his first album in 2019 Super Young Blood, which had several international collaborations, in addition to a good impact among the general public. Just seven months later, for his birthday on June 24, he will release the EP (compilation of songs) called “24” in reference to the age he was turning.
In 2021, the album Since the end of the world would be released to the public, having 18 songs with more than 15 collaborations. This album has several songs more linked to rock or Britpop than to trap, also having a video recorded at the Perito Moreno Glacier in Santa Cruz, where he also gave a concert broadcast on YouTube.
And in 2022 it premiered Reggaeton Season 2which has as its final theme Givenchy, which for Mauro himself meant his return to trap. In June of that year Before America It would be his new project. Duki would close the year filling the Vélez Sársfield stadium no less than four times.
Stadiums
On June 28 of this year, through a video on his social networks that showed his journey in music, Duki announces his date in River, which in just minutes sold out. He then had to get a new date, with the same result as the previous one: absolute sale in a matter of minutes.
Thus, on December 2 and 3, the Monumental Stadium will witness the most important musical phenomenon of recent times in our country. Duki, the same boy who rapped in the squares, will play in front of more than 60,000 people all his greatest hits, in addition to presenting his latest work. As if that were not enough, on June 8, 2024, Real Madrid’s home, the Santiago Bernabéu, will welcome him and his thousands of fans from the other side of the Atlantic.
Trap is not a fad, it is not a simple sound that plays at parties. Trap is for many a way of life and for others, their main job. Duki is already among the big names in this genre. He is one of the pioneers and most important exponents of this musical style.
