Form crisis since four -hill tour tour
“Last chance”: Germany’s ski jumper under pressure

Two months ago, the world in German ski jumping was still okay. But since then it has been steeply downhill. The World Cup is now the last hope.
Pius Paschke in first place, Andreas Wellinger on six, Karl Geiger on nine. In front of the four -hill tour, Germany mixed vigorously in the top of the world. Little has left of this since the disappointing season highlight at the turn of the year. Paschke has not made it to the winner’s platform in a single since mid -December and has slipped to fifth place in the overall ranking. Wellinger is only ninth to find violinist in 15th place.
The Ski World Cup in Trondheim is now the great opportunity to create the trend reversal. And ex-ski jumper Martin Schmitt believes in the DSV eagles. “I’m still quite cool. The boys can do something,” said the Eurosport expert of the German Press Agency.
The world championships as a separate event detached from the World Cup could help. “It is the last chance for the ‘disappointed’ to show again. I always liked it extremely,” said Schmitt.
Pius Paschke himself also tries to stay optimistic. “In the end it is about a medal. So we can jump relatively freely if you are not exactly medal favorite,” said the 34-year-old in the winter sports podcast of the “Sportschau”.
Most recently, Paschke missed the top 20 five times in a row. “It is a steady work. It is tedious, it is exhausting to work up again. Place the focus correctly, that’s my challenge. I have a clear plan for the World Cup.
Paschke didn’t want to open a discussion about national coach Stefan Horngacher. “The athletes, including me, have to pack their own nose and first look: What can I really do better? Only then can you somehow have a different discussion. But as I said, the question is not currently arising. We are in the middle of winter and we want to take a successful winter conclusion now,” he said.
The German ski jumpers had always brought at least one single medal at the last five world championships. The first decision in Trondheim is on Sunday (from 5:00 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) from the normal hill.
