Drenthe has fewest female councilors

In Drenthe, 16.7 percent of aldermen are women. This means that Drenthe has the fewest female councilors in the Netherlands. The national average is 29 percent. This is apparent from research by the NOS, in which, four months after the municipal elections, an assessment is made of the status of the formations in the country.

In Drenthe the formations were all complete after 88 days. And the 48 alderman posts were fixed. The number of women in these posts is meager. Eight women take a seat in the lectures. Especially in Hoogeveen and Assen the colleges are strongholds for men. Both have five aldermen, and all five are men.

Drenthe does score high when it comes to local aldermen. In Drenthe, 42.1 percent of aldermen come from local parties. Only Limburg and Noord-Brabant have a higher percentage of aldermen from local parties.

The NOS concludes that local parties have considerably more aldermen than might be expected on the basis of the results. With 31.3 percent of the votes, they won 26.6 percent of the alderman posts.
