Dramatic situation – Tähti fell head first to the ground

Heike Drechsler-Bryggare analyzes the men’s long jump events.

– Fantastic competition! Excitement, changing situations and events. 852 for the winner and 850 for the silver medalist. I can’t remember the last time I saw such an entertaining long jump competition.

Visiting expert of Iltalehti, two-time Olympic long jump winner Heike Drechsler-Bryggaretotta vie liked what he saw at the Hungarian World Championships on Thursday evening.

But.

One thing the legend didn’t like happened in the third round.

– It hurt!

of Jamaica Carey McLeod slipped on the board, flew recklessly through the air and fell headfirst into a pile of sand.

The expert spoke even before the race that a similar accident might happen.

– Worrying. Moisture and heat make the plank surface slippery. The board should always be carefully dried between jumps.

McLeod’s game was played after what appeared to be a dramatic accident, although he was able to continue the race.

In the end, the man finished third, while in the last round a fellow countryman Tajay Gayle (827) swept forward. McLeod’s result was the same, but with a better second-longest jump, Gayle took the bronze.

The reigning Olympic champion emerged as world champion Miltiadis Tentoglou (852).

– A very reactive and explosive jumper. He is a very light guy with excellent technique. The speed continues nicely after the effort and the aerial flight is nice to watch.

In the final lap, the Greek overtook the Jamaican, who had been leading the race until then by Wayne Pinnock (850).

– The fact that the rankings vary in the last round is a result of the fight. Usually, the athlete tries to load everything into the first performance and gives shock treatment to others. After that, the energies decrease a bit, until the fight in the last round always ignites in a special way.

No less than 20 overstepped jumps were seen in the competition.

– When there are six companies in use, sometimes a risk is taken. And at the point when the athlete loses a bit of energy, the step lengthens. The fact that the wind conditions varied during the race also had some effect on Thursday’s overstepped performances, the expert estimated.
