“Dot on the i”: BVB star says goodbye emotionally

On Saturday, Roman Bürki kept goal for Borussia Dortmund for the last time. The Swiss, who was only number three at BVB last season, received his farewell game from coach Marco Rose against Hertha BSC. Before, during and after the game, things got emotional for the 31-year-old.

Roman Bürki shed tears even before kick-off. Celebrated by the Dortmund south stand, the visibly touched keeper patted the club crest several times.

“A big chapter of my career is coming to an end. Being said goodbye like that is the icing on the cake. It’s incredible what the fans get out of it emotionally,” the veteran later gave an insight into his emotional world.

The Swiss had been in the BVB box a total of 233 times in competitive games and kept it clean 83 times. Most recently he was behind his compatriots Gregor Kobel and Marwin Hitz, who is also leaving the club, but only number three.

In the 2-1 win against Hertha BSC, Bürki had to get behind him one last time, and Ishak Belfodil scored with a penalty. “I would have liked to save a penalty in the Bundesliga,” admitted the keeper afterwards.

After BVB farewell: Bürki in the second team

Bürki continues his career in the USA with St. Louis City SC. “I’m going over on June 1st,” he revealed in an interview with “Ruhr newsHowever, the ex-international will have to wait a while for his MLS adventure to begin.

“I will first play in the second team in St. Louis,” said Bürki. The background is that his future employer will not start in the top US league until 2023.
