DOSB and board member separate prematurely

The German Olympic Sports Confederation parted ways with board member Dirk Schimmelpfennig before the end of his contract.

The DOSB confirmed a report by the “FAZ” to the “Sports Information Service”. At the end of September it became known that Schimmelpfennig’s contract with the umbrella organization for organized sports would not be extended. The 60-year-old was responsible for competitive sports on the board and had led Team D to three Olympic Games as Chef de Mission.

The employment relationship should expire at the end of the year, now the DOSB and Schimmelpfennig “mutually agreed on a leave of absence”, reported the “FAZ”. A successor, which the DOSB had previously announced, is to be presented at the general meeting on December 3rd in Baden-Baden.

DOSB President: Need “personnel change in management”

Schimmelpfennig switched from the German Table Tennis Association to the DOSB in March 2015. His long-time companion Thomas Weikert thanked him “for the excellent work he has done for the DOSB and competitive sports in Germany over the past seven years”.

However, the President emphasized that “in view of the numerous challenges currently facing competitive sport in Germany, it is important to make a change in leadership”.

Above all, Schimmelpfennig’s tasks included the implementation of the competitive sports reform decided the year before. It’s not finished yet. On Thursday, Schimmelpfennig said goodbye in a letter to the member associations of the DOSB.
