Trump announces the “Patriot Games”.

The US President has announced a huge nationwide sporting event to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA. The White House plans to host the “Patriot Games” – a competition in which the best young athletes in the country will compete against each other.

“This fall we will host the first-ever Patriot Games, an unprecedented four-day sporting event featuring the best high school athletes – one young man and one young woman from each state and territory,” the president said in a video message from Freedom 250.

“Patriot Games” or “Hunger Games”?

This should sound familiar to fans of the “Hunger Games” series. The White House plan is very reminiscent of the film series. Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss Everdeen, who has to fight for her life in the so-called “Hunger Games”. In the fictional land of Panem, two tributes from each district are forced to compete in the games and fight to the death until one winner remains.

The reactions to the announcement didn’t take long to arrive. The US Democrats were the first to draw a comparison to the “Hunger Games” on X by posting a film clip from the first part of the series. Numerous comments followed: “President Snow has announced the first ever Hunger Games. I wonder when he will abolish states’ rights and divide us into districts,” one user wrote. “When I said I wanted more Hunger Games, I meant a new book, not experiencing them myself,” another commented.

Further announcements for the anniversary

In his announcement video, Trump also announced that he wanted to have a triumphal arch built in Washington. “We are the only important city without a triumphal arch. A beautiful triumphal arch, like in Paris,” he said. A UFC fight will also be held on the White House grounds as part of the celebrations. This is scheduled to take place on the president’s 80th birthday on June 14, 2026.
