Can Gerard Joling turn the tide of falling viewing figures for Arjen Lubach? Will we see him in his satirical TV show soon? “Certainly not the first three months.”
It is not going well with the viewing figures of Arjen Lubach on RTL 4. Statistics from TV authority Tina Nijkamp show that 48 (!) Percent of the Linear Public has already dropped out and that is really a lot. What should the channel top do about this? Can they perhaps use crowd puller Gerard Joling? That he sits next to Arjen every Thursday?
‘Not very RTL’
Jordi Versteegden, reporter of De Telegraaf, would in any case find it more appropriate than the guests who looked at Arjen last week, such as Micha Wertheim and Stephen Fry. “That is not very much RTL or something,” he says in the podcast Strictly private.
Colleague Evert Santegoeds on that: “No, not at all. Stephen Fry is a big name, but Eva Jinek can put Robbie Williams at the table, but that does not do anything for the viewing figures. That also applies to Stephen Fry. He is a fantastic writer, but that is not the RTL audience.”
Notful
Evert does not think it is strange that the scores of Arjen are under pressure. “Well, I have seen two broadcasts of the week that I didn’t find funny at all.”
Jordi: “Yes, the viewing figures also collapse.”
Evert: “Yes, I am not surprised if you invite these guests. That broadcast with Micha Wertheim, that was not to get through? He does whether the entire public broadcaster is being cut back. That is the biggest bullshit that is, that is not. And if you are going to talk to such an outskirts all the time, that is really not so much to watch.”
800 thousand
What does Evert think that Arjen suddenly went down to RTL under 700 thousand-viewers border? There is still a lot to be postponed? “Yes, but it is nice if you start with 800 thousand and then look at how we look back on Videoland.”
To make matters worse, a bigger hit than Lubach, in terms of viewing figures, also starts with the competitor. Rob Goossens in RTL Boulevard: “You are fishing in the same pond in terms of jokes. Lubach does not want to hear on Saturday evening that people were enjoying here for a moment than he did.”
Joling as a weapon
Anyway: how will RTL turn the tide of falling viewing figures? Is Gerard Joling an option? His soap is a big hit and maybe he can bring some fragments.
Tina Nijkamp does not see it happening. She says in Het Parool: “Lubach has 100 percent freedom. RTL would be strange to make him promotion for the channel. In addition, he wants to avoid the appearance that his new boss influences him. You will not see one RTL face in the first three months.”
