Doeksen cannot avoid it either: rising fuel prices are forcing the shipping company to take measures and a substantial price increase. ‘Terribly sour’

LNG prices have risen to such an extent that Doeksen sees no other solution than to let the main timetable between Harlingen and Terschelling sail by the ms Friesland instead of the Willem de Vlamingh and the Willem Barentsz. These, in turn, will serve on busy days, when extra capacity is needed. “The gas oil price has increased by 200 percent, but the LNG price by 900 percent,” explains director of shipping company Doeksen Dirk Spoor. “That means that for every current sailing last year we were able to make ten sailings for the same fuel costs. That means that we have no choice but to intervene, otherwise the service will become unaffordable for passengers.”
