With three weeks left until the elections for a new House of Representatives, all parties have announced their candidate lists. Omroep Brabant and Localfocus examined the lists and looked for the people from Brabant. As it turns out, there are again relatively few.
This time there are a total of 109 people from Brabant on whom you can make your choice. This concerns candidates who currently live in Brabant. People who were born in Brabant, but have now left the province, are not counted.
Of the 1166 candidates, just over a hundred live in our province. That is only 9.4 percent, while approximately 15 percent of all voters come from our province. Converted, all those Brabant voters account for 22 to 23 seats.
Who are the candidates?
The three highest ranked Brabanders on the various lists are:
- Esmah Lahlah from Tilburg – GroenLinks-PvdA (2nd place)
- Ruben Brekelmans from Oisterwijk – VVD (place 3)
- Inge van Dijk from Gemert – CDA (4th place)
Most Brabanders
The party with the most Brabanders on the list is currently not in the House of Representatives (and can therefore not be found in the extensive overview below). It concerns 50PLUS, the party has no fewer than 13 Brabanders on the list, followed by the VVD (10). Parties without Brabanders on the list are: Vrede voor Dieren, BIJ1 and the Fryske National Party (FNP).
The party lists differ in terms of the number of candidates. If we look at the relatively most Brabanders per party that can be voted on, the overview looks like this:
The very marginal party ‘DE LINIE’ has a candidate list that almost half consists of candidates who live in Brabant. That sounds like a lot, but the party’s total list only has 15 candidates. To give as fair a picture as possible, the Brabant part of the candidate lists is shown below again with the numbers of candidates:
Localfocus mapped out which municipalities candidate MPs come from. The south of the province in particular appears to be underrepresented: almost all border municipalities will certainly not send anyone to parliament.
