Guns n ‘Roses will appear for the first time this year at Wacken Open Air – and apparently with a set that could be exceptionally long for festival relationships.
Over three hours of ecstasy?
According to the official running order, the appearance of the rock icons is scheduled for three and a half hours, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. Should the band actually exploit this season, it would be the longest headliner gig in the history of the festival. It is known that Guns n ‘Roses tend to extend shows. At its last Germany concert in 2023 in Düsseldorf, the band played a 32 songs strong set over a period of about three and a half hours. Concerts of this length are also not uncommon on the current tour.
Festival sets usually shorter
However, other framework conditions apply to festivals. Sets are usually significantly shorter. Even headliner appearances usually last a maximum of two hours. The Scorpions ended their Wacken gig 2024 after around 90 minutes and 18 songs.
Buffer or mega show?
One option: The organizers have deliberately planned a buffer for the Guns N ‘Roses show at Wacken Open Air. For example for technical delays or weather -related interruptions. But also possible that a complete concert of this length is actually planned. Most recently, the band had played a set of almost three hours at the Firenze Rocks Festival in Florence in June.
Strain for Axl Rose
It also remains open whether AXL rose with a monster set with it. In the past few weeks and months, his vocal constitution at shows has been critically assessed again and again. Also with the songs that he sang at the final concert by Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath, there were partly ridicule and malice for his voice. It remains to be seen whether a consistently convincing appearance succeeds over three and a half hours in Wacken. The stage plan for the “Harder Stage” was published on the Wacken Open Air in mid -July.
A set of this length would be a novelty when the Wacken Open Air and would mean a record. Acts such as Sabaton or Alice Cooper have already played extensive shows. The three and a half-hour mark has never been exceeded.
