Only one step is missing towards the one hundred. Novak Djokovic was about to succeed in Miami, but he failed against Mensik. Now he tries again in Geneva, still on the hunt for the title that would take him to the triple figure. On the Swiss Red Land, the former number one defeated Cameron Norrie in the semifinal with the result of 6-4 6-7 6-1 in two hours and 14 minutes of play. Less nervous than the Mach against Arnaldi, less phalloid but with a partial left on the road to a possible Saturday of celebration. The last big obstacle is Hubert Hurkacz, his opponent in a final that could change the season of the twenty -four Slam champion, so far not at the height of his blazon.

The first set

In 2022 Novak Djokovic against Cameron Norrie meant a final in Wimbledon. Three years later the final of a 250 tournament is worth. However, it is not less important for this. On the contrary, the challenge in London had deluded the British for a set, then the usual domain of Nole. In Geneva it is Belgrade’s tennis player to give the first turning point. On 2-2 Norrie offers the first two break balls, but Djokovic wasted them both. The situation is proposed two game after, but in a different way. The former number eight in the world goes on 15-40 on his service and Novak immediately transforms into break. The set is a quick practice for the second series head: a net 6-4 and three unformed errors marked in the scoreboard.

The second and third set

The story changes in the second part, but is not different from what has been seen in the match against Arnaldi. Djokovic is the first to suffer the break and Norrie runs on 3-1. The Serbian, in difficulty on the straight side, cancels set point on his service in the seventh game. This is enough to make the current number six in the world go up again in the chair. It opens with a double foul by Norrie, closes with a play to Djokovic. Repeated challenge, discounted tie-break, but not for the outcome. The British starts with a mini-break, undergoes a comeback, cancels a match point to Serbian but in the end with a winning service he closes the second set. The decisive set is a deal that Djokovic wants to close as quickly as possible. There are few days that are missing for the beginning of Roland Garros and losing too many energies in Geneva could be risky. Take the break at the opening, leaving Norrie only one 15, and flies on 4-1. He still tears the service and this time it is not wrong, reaching the final number 143 in his career. The important number, however, is still to be conquered: there is a hundred to chase and there is no one victory.
