The Bundesliga club FC Augsburg surprisingly separates from his coach Jess Thorup and sports director Marinko Jurendic. Whoever follows the two is not yet clear. Rumor has been a coach Sandro Wagner from the DFB.

The rumors have been flitting over the news ticker in the past few days. On Friday evening at 6 p.m., FC Augsburg then released the serious message that is like a bang with the actually so quiet Bundesliga club: the club separates with immediate effect from its successful coach Jess Thorup and sports director Marinko Jurendic.

Augsburg club records at the beginning of the year

The decision had been made after a multi -day and intensive season analysis. Those responsible for the association around the managing director Michael Ströll are said to have been dissatisfied primarily with the club’s less attractive style of play. Thorup was not really able to free FC Augsburg from his “gray-mouse image”. “The decision is anything but easy for us,” said Ströll. However, changes are needed for the “development and orientation” of the club – at the trainer and sports director position.

In terms of results, however, Thorup can lead the third strongest season of the club in the field with 43 points, and he has also given the FCA the best point cut since the Bundesliga climb in 2011. And so the separation is definitely surprising. Because the coach (in office since October 2023) and Jurendic (since August 2023 sports director) had sometimes even turned a candidate to a European Cupplatz in recent years. At the beginning of 2025, FC Augsburg with its series of eleven Bundesliga games without defeat (club record!) Was one of the strongest teams in Europe.

Jurendic creates transfer coups like Claude-Maurice and Matsima

And Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen made it to one of the most striking goalkeepers with a series of 683 minutes without conceding a goal of the continent. England’s national coach Thomas Tuchel, who also has a British passport in addition to the German, should also have become aware of him.

And under the Swiss sports director Jurendic, the Augsburgers have a few transfer coups: Chrislain Matsima grew up to one of the top inner defenders of the league, also Dimitrios Giannoulis, Cédric Zesiger and Keven Schlotterbeck stabilized the defense with top services. On the offensive, Alexis Claude-Maurice turned out to be a direct hit. And in terms of further developments, it was noticeable: Jurendic also got the highly talented Mert Kömür, Mahmut Kücküksahin and Noahkai Banks into the team.

Thorup with flights of height, but without a European ticket

In addition to the high -altitude flights, the negative results are also liable: in the last eight games of this season, Thorup’s team only scored five points, the last four games were even lost. In the end it was enough for twelve. The FCA was almost as good under Thorup with eleven 2023/24 and twelve 2024/25, but must not play in Europe in the coming season.

Possible coaching coup: Will Sandro Wagner FCA coach?

Nothing is yet known for the succession for the two. Rumor has it the former Unterhachinger promotion coach Sandro Wagner, who ends his assistant coach of national coach Julian Nagelsmann at the DFB team in the summer. So far, the Augsburgers have not yet commented on this.

Wagner, who continues to live in Unterhaching at the gates of Munich, would undoubtedly be a coup for FC Augsburg, he is the opposite of the “gray mouse” in German football. His employment at the German Football Association ends after the final Four of the Nations League in Munich and Stuttgart from June June 8th.
