Disappointing World Cup performance by Nadine Visser, Menno Vloon does not show up

Nadine Visser was unable to score highly at the World Championships in Athletics. The 27-year-old hurdler from Hoogkarspel was eliminated in the semifinals. Visser did run her best time of the season (12.66 seconds), but that was not enough for the final.

“I was sharp and thought I was running well. After the race I looked hopefully at the scoreboard, but I didn’t go as fast as I thought. That says something about my form. Apparently it isn’t that good after all,” says Visser after her race.

“It is the first time in years that I am not in the final of a global championship, the level is bizarrely high,” says Visser, who saw a new world record set just before her race. “Tobi Amusan’s world record (12.12 seconds) proves that. But those other girls who didn’t make the final also all ran personal bests. Not me.”

No final

In the last two editions Visser ran the World Cup final. In 2017 he finished seventh in London and two years later in Doha Visser finished sixth. She finished fifth at the Tokyo Olympics.

Menno Vloon

Menno Vloon was also unable to break any pots last night. The pole vaulter missed the starting height of 5 meters and 55 centimeters in the final after three attempts. The Zaandammer has already jumped over a height of 5.96 meters indoors and was very disappointed afterwards. “I really don’t know. This is new to me. I was not good with my run-up.”

“I know there is much more to it. I went here for a medal. It has been a long time since I jumped three times straight away. Then it must happen at the European Championships,” says Vloon, who hopes to shine in Munich in three weeks.
