For years, a nurse raped protégés in a Berlin facility for the disabled. The verdict: 10 years imprisonment. But the Berlin district court rejects his preventive detention: A “prone” to such crimes was not found in the process, says court spokeswoman Lisa Jani.

The state-approved curative education nurse Andreas M. (34) has been in prison since September 28, 2022. The trial began on April 24, 2023, and the public was excluded.

70 sex offenses committed in two years were convicted. The victims: three women and three men between the ages of 32 and 46 who live in a Hellersdorf residential group run by the disabled.

After the evidence was taken, it was clear that there were 47 rapes that he himself documented with photos and videos.

He was tracked down after a tip from a child protection organization in the USA. Therefore, there was a search of his apartment (suspected distribution of child pornography). The investigators from the State Criminal Police Office came across the self-made photos and videos from the residential group more or less by accident.

It was only afterwards that the responsible body for the disabled facility became aware that the curative education worker had already been sentenced to a suspended sentence of six months in 2020 for distributing and possessing child pornography.

The public prosecutor’s office had requested 13 years in prison and subsequent preventive detention due to the risk of recurrence.
