There are only four points differed between the fourth and elves. It currently looks like a place in the Champions League after an eight -fight. With the game between Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart, there is a duel between two candidates.
At the top it is a bit airy. FC Bayern, as leader, has six points more than the worst pursuer, Bayer Leverkusen. The defending champion even has seven points more than Eintracht Frankfurt in third place, and the Hessen, in turn, have five points more than the Saxons of RB Leipzig.
Behind it is much closer, because the Leipziger, fourth in the table, only have four points more than Borussia Dortmund in eleventh place.
The Stuttgarters take fifth place with three points more than BVB, and so it can happen on Saturday that the current table elevator pulls or even over. Then coach Niko Kovač would have to win with at least three goals in his debut for the Dortmund.

A place in the Champions League and two consolation plasters
The BVB still wants to go to the Champions League, and it has to climb fourth or higher. However, the Frankfurters already have a small cushion and are likely to have the quality of staying among the top four teams even without Omar Marmoush.
At the moment it looks like there was an eight -fight for fourth place in the table and two fairly thick consolation plasters, at least for clubs like the 1st FSV. Mainz 05, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Werder Bremen and SC Freiburg.
The fifth will be allowed to take part in the Europa League, the sixth in the playoffs for the Conference League.
Fifth place will not be enough for Champions League
At Borussia Dortmund it would like a maximum of a few fans to travel to Northern Ireland and Albania instead of traveling to Bernabeu. A fifth place in the Champions League, such as the Bundesliga and thus BVB received him in the European Cup before the German teams before the very good performance of the German teams, will be unrealistic in the coming season.
The eleventh can get past fifth with a win

A special table in which only the games are rated with each other shows that the SC Freiburg scores best. Due to the different number of previous direct duels, it makes sense to take the point cut. Here the Freiburger are 1.63 points, but the Mainzer only got exactly one point in each of the games relevant to the table.
For this, the Mainz have already scored six points from the previous three games against the top trio, but the Freiburg, however, none of four games.
Defeats against teams that are in the relegation swamp can become particularly expensive. Strictly speaking, this happened this season. BVB lost to Holstein Kiel in January, the 1st FSV Mainz 05 at home against 1. FC Heidenheim. However, that was on the fifth matchday, it was not yet clear that the Heidenheimers would get such difficulties in the second season after the ascent.
