Nieuwpoort continues to focus on underground containers, where the rates remain the same: 0.50 euros for 20 liters and 1 euro for 50 liters. According to waste councilor Maarten Claeys, 75% of waste is already collected via this system today. “We want the cleanest seaside resort in the country become,” says Claeys.
Some rates are increasing at the recycling park: Bulky waste goes from 0.22 to 0.25 euros per kilo, and construction and demolition waste from 0.04 to 0.055 euros per kilo. Reuse should be further encouraged. Green waste remains free up to 1,000 kilos per family, after which it costs 0.025 euros per kilo.
