Differences in the popularity of grocery retail employers

The big supermarket chains like REWE or EDEKA are desperately looking for staff. According to the REWE job portal, more than 12,000 jobs are advertised there alone. But popularity is also important for applicants in supermarkets. As an analysis of the YouGov BrandIndex has now shown, the large supermarket chains perform differently here.

The most popular supermarkets of workers

As can be seen from the YouGov BrandIndex, EDEKA and Aldi in particular perform particularly well. It is followed by Lidl, REWE and Kaufland.

As the analysis of the YouGOV brand index shows, well-known supermarkets and discounters are at the top of the list and are therefore the most popular employers in the food retail sector.

The fact that the large supermarket chains in Germany are urgently looking for staff is not new. According to a study by the EHI Retail Institute from 2019, around 50,000 jobs were already advertised by the 50 largest retail companies. “Retail is looking for staff, and lots of it,” EHI HR expert Ulrike Witt complained to WirtschaftsWoche at the time. This situation has worsened in recent years.

Popularity also depends on age

According to the YouGov BrandIndex, which supermarket chain is perceived as particularly attractive also depends on the age of the respondents. In the under-30s age group, Lidl is number one. Aldi was able to secure the top position in the group of 31 to 50 year olds. In the favor of the age group 51 and older, EDEKA is at the forefront.

As the YouGov BrandIndex shows, however, groceries do not have a particularly good image among employees. On the other hand, car manufacturers and producers of consumer electronics are considered to be particularly popular.
