Dietmar Hamann sharply criticizes Hansi Flick’s whereabouts as national coach

Despite the World Cup debacle, Hansi Flick is allowed to continue as national coach. Apparently not everyone likes the fact that the former coach of FC Bayern is also allowed to prepare the German national team for the home European Championship in 2024. Dietmar Hamann is one of the harshest critics.

After a tournament analysis, the DFB leadership decided that Hansi Flick would remain in office. The embarrassing exit in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar was not fatal for the 57-year-old.

A decision that not only surprised Dietmar Hamann, but also annoyed him. The former international and today’s “Sky” expert has now revealed that.

“I would have actually wished for a complete restart. Because, in retrospect, it turns out, among other things, that there were apparently differences between the Bayern block and the rest at the World Cup in Qatar – and exactly all these players will be too be the same in the coming months and years,” Hamann remarked critically.

The former midfielder alluded to a report by “Sport Bild” that revealed deeper cracks within the team because of Flick’s loyalty to the Munich professionals.

Hamann: The atmosphere in the national team will not improve

Hamann fears evil. “So I don’t know now why the climate within the team should improve sustainably in the weeks and months leading up to the 2024 home European Championship,” he sounded the alarm.

After Oliver Bierhoff gave up his position at the DFB on Monday, Flick’s whereabouts as national coach began to falter. There has already been public discussion about possible successors to the native of Heidelberg, who only replaced Joachim Löw in 2021.

After a conversation with DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and Vice Hans-Joachim Watzke on Wednesday, however, a separation was off the table.
