Diesch/Markfort win silver in the 470 Mixed European Championship

Simon Diesch and Anna Markfort won the silver medal in the Olympic 470 mixed at the European Championships in front of Sanremo.

The German duo from the Württemberg Yacht Club and the Joersfelder Segel-Club/Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee finished second after twelve rounds, one point behind the new Swedish European champions Anton Dahlberg and Lovisa Karlsson. The French Hippolyte Machetti and Aloise Retornaz complete the podium.

“We’re happy with silver, even if the one point for gold hurts a bit in the end,” said Markfort: “We had planned to always fight to the end. We did that well.”

The 470 mixed class celebrates its premiere at the 2024 Olympics, and the teams from the German Sailing Association (DSV) are among the favourites. At the 2022 World Cup, Luise Wanser and Philipp Autenrieth won the title. “We have four or five talented crews in the group. I wouldn’t trade them for any other group in the world,” said DSV trainer Steve Lovegrove.
