In almost three decades of experience, Diego Colunga He has traveled the Argentine aeronautical sector from different angles: it was Macair Jet CEOled the development of Aerochaco and Entre Ríos airlineshe advised State by air transport and today integrates the Argentine Airlines Directoryboth ad honorem. His vision and leadership combines operational knowledge with a strategic look on industry’s challenges.
—How do you see the future of aviation in Argentina and what measures consider necessary for its development?
—Diego Colunga: Argentina has an enormous growth potential in executive, regional and regular aviation. From the State, measures are being promoted to facilitate that development, but the changes do not occur overnight. To convince investors to enter an intensive and long -term capital business is not simple, but those who detect the opportunity can before obtain great benefits. Not only in airlines, but also in complementary services such as workshops, flight schools, ramps, insurance and local financing, which today does not exist today. In addition, there is a great challenge in the training and retention of talent for the public sector in key areas such as air control and maintenance. It is essential to train professionals to accompany the growth that, in my opinion, is coming.
– In your opinion, what should be the balance between a public airline and the competition of the private sector?
—DC: I am convinced that in Argentina there is space for all current players and many more to come. The state airline will not be able to absorb all the growth that could occur if we achieve a couple of years of economic stability. I see the sector as an interconnected system: if one grows, they all grow. Therefore, I think it is key to cooperation between public and private actors to increase the number of passengers, something that in Argentina has not happened for more than ten years. Due to its structure and market share, our airline has the opportunity to lead different areas within the industry, beyond passenger transport.

“Why did you decide not to charge fees as director and what message do you seek to convey with this decision?”
—DC: I consider that my contribution is a contribution to the country and the aeronautical industry that has given me so much. Giving up fees is a way to demonstrate my selfless commitment and focus on the growth and strengthening of the company without a personal economic interest.
– What strategies do you consider key to improve the profitability of the company?
—DC: It is crucial to implement strategies that optimize operating costs, improve efficiency in operations and diversify the sources of income. This includes the revision of routes, the modernization of the fleet, the improvement in the customer experience and the exploration of strategic alliances that enhance the position of the company in the international market.

—What role does technological innovation play in the future of the company?
—DC: Technological innovation is essential to maintain competitiveness in the air market. Our airline must bet on process digitalization, the implementation of advanced management systems and the improvement of customer experience through technological tools. This not only optimizes operations, but also allows to offer more personalized and efficient services to passengers.

—How plans to contribute to the development of human talent within the company?
—DC: Human capital is the most valuable asset of any organization. My goal is to promote training and professional development programs that allow employees to acquire new skills and grow within the company. In addition, it is essential to create a work environment that promotes collaboration, innovation and commitment to the values and objectives of Aerolineas Argentinas.
“What message would you give to passengers?”
—DC: I want to convey my commitment and that of the entire team to provide a quality, safe and efficient service. We are working hard to improve every aspect of their travel experience and to consolidate the company as a national pride that connects Argentines with the world.
