Di Rupo: “We are going to put the corona barometer to sleep” | Inland

“We are going to deactivate the corona barometer or rather put it in a sleep mode.” That is what Walloon Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo said to the RTBF. Di Rupo also confirms that the intention is to cancel the mouth mask requirement on public transport at the Consultation Committee tomorrow.

The Consultation Committee between the various governments of the country will meet at 2 p.m. to consider the health situation and decide on possible relaxation. Since March 7, the corona barometer has been at code yellow, the lowest level.

Almost all measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus have been lifted. There is still a mouth mask obligation in healthcare, at pharmacists and in public transport.

What if Covid-19 returns?

According to Di Rupo, the corona barometer will be put on hold. He also believes that it will no longer be necessary to wear a mouth mask on public transport. “It will still be recommended if the distance of 1.5 meters cannot be guaranteed,” said Di Rupo. Furthermore, the obligation would remain in hospitals, with general practitioners and with pharmacies.

The (temporary) lifting of the barometer will not be the only decision. “We are working on a system in case Covid-19 returns, maybe in the fall,” Di Rupo concluded.
