The football world is also mourning after the attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg. The DFL has therefore made a recommendation.

After the attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg on Friday evening, the German Football League (DFL) announced measures for the upcoming games in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. As the league association announced, the DFL recommends that clubs wear a mourning ribbon and supports minutes of silence before games this weekend.

The attack caused great consternation in the football world. Numerous professional clubs expressed their condolences on social media. The DFL also wrote: “In these difficult hours, our thoughts are with the victims, their relatives and friends. We wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

The players of 1. FC Magdeburg, who left the pitch in silence on Friday evening after their away win at Fortuna Düsseldorf (5:2) in the 2nd league, were also affected. The club deliberately did not publish a match report on its website and stated: “When football becomes a minor matter.”
