UEFA squad list has been determined

National coach Julian Nagelsmann has chosen the goalkeeper trio Oliver Baumann (35), Alexander Nübel (29) and Finn Dahmen (27) for the game in Luxembourg on Friday evening (8:45 p.m.). This is evident from the squad list, which the European Football Union (UEFA) announced in advance. It is therefore clear that Noah Atubolu (23), who was nominated for the German national team for the first time and is also available, from SC Freiburg has to take a seat in the stands. “There are regulations as to how many goalkeepers can sit on the bench,” said the national coach – and that number is two.
At the press conference on Monday, Nagelsmann was astonished to explain why he had nominated four goalkeepers – even if only three were allowed to appear on the scoresheet for the games. “Whether you take eight goalkeepers with you or four, it’s always the same. I can also take twelve with you. The number on the score sheet is always the same,” said the national coach. Atubolu, who was part of the German U21 team until the European Championships in the summer, “deserved to be there again and show himself,” said the national coach. In October, Atubolu was knocked out after a blow to the knee before the game against Northern Ireland (1:0) left.
It remains to be seen whether he is an option for the second game against Slovakia on Monday (8:45 p.m.) in Leipzig. It is expected that Baumann, who was most recently number one as a replacement for the injured Marc-André ter Stegen (33), will be in the box.
The ailing Nico Schlotterbeck (25) and Joshua Kimmich (30) are still on the list and are therefore expected to sit on the bench as part of the 20 field players. Karim Adeyemi (23), on the other hand, can keep Atubolu company: the Dortmund striker is suspended against Luxembourg.
